Flex-Fuel: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari unveiled the world’s first prototype of BS6 Stage II ‘Electrified Flex Fuel Vehicle’ developed by Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The vehicle can run on up to 85% ethanol blended fuel.

Gadkari stated that the use of bio-fuel in this vehicle will help in ending almost 100% of stubble burning, which will also contribute to doubling the income of farmers. He called it a historic day and expressed his condolences on the death of Vikram Kirloskar, who was involved in the development of the prototype.

Gadkari highlighted the importance of reducing pollution caused by fuel, stating that 40% of pollution is generated due to fuel. He mentioned that India is currently importing fuel worth Rs 16 lakh crore and emphasized the need for indigenous and renewable fuel sources.

The Union Minister also mentioned the production of ethanol from bio-waste at the Panipat plant in Haryana. He shared the example of using 50% bio-aviation fuel in two separate flights and emphasized the importance of supporting farmers, who contribute 65% to the country’s GDP.

Gadkari commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make farmers self-reliant and stated that ethanol holds promising prospects for India. He mentioned the government’s focus on achieving energy self-sufficiency, doubling farmers’ income, and making a positive impact on the environment.

The BS6 Stage II ‘Electrified Flex Fuel Vehicle’ is based on the Toyota Innova Highcross and has been engineered to comply with India’s stringent emission norms. It is considered the first prototype of its kind globally.
