Delhi to Roll Out 50 Mohalla Buses Next Month. 50 Buses to Hit the Streets from August
In a move to enhance public transport, Delhi’s Transportation Department is all set to launch 50 Mohalla (neighborhood) buses starting next month. These nine-meter-long buses aim to make commuting easier for residents by providing better connectivity within the city.
Depot Preparations Underway
The preparations for this launch are in full swing. Three depots have already been constructed, with 13 more expected to be ready by the end of this year. The first phase will see the operation of these buses from the Kushak Nala Depot.

Future Plans: 2180 Buses by 2025
The Transportation Department has ambitious plans to expand this initiative. By 2025, they aim to have 2180 Mohalla buses on the roads, covering different neighborhoods of Delhi. Currently, 50 buses have been received and are undergoing rigorous testing to ensure they meet the required standards.

A committee of senior officials has been formed to oversee the testing of these buses. The initial inspection report is expected within 15 days. Following this, a seven-day trial will be conducted. Once the trials are completed successfully, the buses will start operating on various routes from the Kushak Nala Depot.

The operation of 2180 Mohalla buses will be managed from 16 depots across Delhi. While three depots are ready, the remaining ones will be completed within this year. Here’s a breakdown of the depots and the number of buses they will handle:
- Gazipur: 60 buses
- East Vinod Nagar: 60 buses
- Kushak Nala: 669 buses
- Ambedkar Nagar: 350 buses
- Dwarka Main: 40 buses
- Mundka: 180 buses
- Dwarka Sector-2: 180 buses
- Nangloi DMRC: 60 buses
- Keshopur: 180 buses
- Nangloi DTC: 180 buses
- Peeragarhi: 135 buses
- Rithala: 170 buses
- Shadipur: 230 buses
- Kohat Enclave: 35 buses
- Dwarka Sector-9: 20 buses
- Narela Cluster: 180 buses
Seven-Day Trial
Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring smooth travel across Delhi. He confirmed that the first 50 buses will start operating from the Kushak Nala Depot, with subsequent operations expanding to 16 depots.

These buses are designed to be nine meters in length, making them suitable for navigating the city’s narrower streets and ensuring they can serve a larger number of neighborhoods effectively.
