Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Begins Construction of 1,872 Houses in Rudrapur

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, approved in 2017, has finally begun construction on 1,872 houses in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. The project will cover 15 acres of land and will include a park and business complex. The registration process will begin soon on the Urban Development Department’s portal.

Background

– The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was approved in 2017 but construction had not commenced until now.
– The central government expressed displeasure that the project had not been initiated despite receiving permission in 2017.
– Modi Maidan was identified as a possible location, but it was not deemed suitable by the government.
– The district development authority eventually identified 15 acres of land in Bagwala of Rudrapur village for the project.

Construction and Distribution

– The District Development Authority has prepared and sent a DPR costing Rs.130 crore, out of which the estimated cost is Tk 112 crore.
– The four-storey residential building and commercial complex will be constructed by government agencies UDA and WAPCOS.
– More than 1,872 applications have been received for the houses, which will be distributed through lottery.
– The price of the flats has been set at 6 lakh rupees, with the government providing 2.5 lakh rupees and the beneficiary paying the remaining 3.5 lakhs.
– The government will also provide loans.

Conditions for Applicants

– Applicants must be residents of Uttarakhand from before 2015 and have an income of less than 3 lakh rupees.
– The application form can only be submitted in the name of the lady of the house.
– The registration fee of Rs.5000 can be deposited through HDFC Bank.
– The District Development Authority is camping to participate in the application process.
