On New Year’s Day, the Yogi government made a significant announcement that has brought joy to contract drivers and conductors working for the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation. They have decided to increase the salary and honorarium for contract drivers by nine percent.
At the same time, operators will see a seven percent increase in their pay. This decision has sparked a wave of happiness among the contractual employees in the Transport Department, who have expressed their appreciation for the government’s supportive move.
Details of the Salary Increase
Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh shared the details of this salary hike, stating that contract drivers and operators of UP Roadways will benefit from the revised honorarium. Previously, drivers were earning Rs 1.89 per kilometer, but this will now increase to Rs 2.06 per kilometer. Conductors will see their earnings rise from Rs 1.89 to Rs 2.02 per kilometer.
This change reflects an increase of 17 paise for drivers and 13 paise for conductors per kilometer. However, it’s important to note that not all sectors will see this wage increase implemented uniformly, especially for those serving in specific suburban services within the NCR region.
Eligibility Conditions for Benefits
In addition to the salary increases, Minister Singh also outlined the eligibility criteria for the ‘Navin Uttam Protsahan Yojana’ benefits. For drivers to qualify, they must have at least two years of continuous service, while conductors need four years. They are also required to complete 288 days of duty, covering a distance of 66,000 kilometers within a financial year.
This is a notable change from the previous requirement of 78,000 kilometers, making it easier for employees to meet the criteria. However, it’s crucial that no accidents occur during the financial year to remain eligible for these benefits.
