In a significant move aimed at enhancing the quality of rail travel in India, the Central Government has announced a large-scale study focused on improving the facilities offered by the Vande Bharat Express trains. The objective is to bring these semi-high-speed trains — often hailed as India’s pride in modern rail infrastructure — up to globally competitive standards.

As part of this initiative, authorities will examine not only the internal design of the trains but also the quality of train operations, maintenance practices, and the technical training of crew members. The broader goal is to elevate both functionality and passenger satisfaction across the Vande Bharat network.

Indian Railways assigns specialist engineers to conduct pan-India inspection and feedback survey of all existing Vande Bharat Express trains

The Railway Board has entrusted this responsibility to the Mechanical Engineering Department at Banaras, which will depute two officers to undertake detailed inspections of every Vande Bharat train currently in service. The appointed engineers will assess a variety of design and operational elements, with particular emphasis on ergonomics, onboard technology, and mechanical integrity.

Their evaluations will include passenger seat design, window structure, automated doors, and other key components that directly affect the travel experience. The study also includes an audit of train maintenance systems and mechanical support infrastructure.

Engineers to visit depots and stations across India to study onboard machinery, staff practices, and recommend technical upgrades

As part of their assignment, the engineers will travel to multiple railway depots and key stations across the country. During these visits, they will examine the performance of machinery, review staff protocols, and assess the effectiveness of routine maintenance practices. Based on their findings, they will recommend improvements and, where necessary, suggest modernization measures to upgrade outdated equipment.
