Uttarakhand: Over 14 Lakh Saplings of Apple and Kiwi Planted
In an effort to make the apple and kiwi mission a success in Uttarakhand, the government is planting plants of both fruit species on a large scale. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi reviewed the Horticulture Department before the review meeting of Apple and Kiwi Mission held by CM Dhami on Thursday. The officials have been asked to focus on the production of fruits like dragon fruit and berries in the Terai region.

In the year 2020-21, 93,000 Kiwi saplings were planted in Uttarakhand, while in 2021-22, 2.13 lakh saplings were planted. Similarly, in the year 2020-21, 2.43 lakh apple saplings were planted, and in 2021-22, 12.06 lakh saplings were planted. The production of apples in Uttarakhand this year was 64 thousand metric tonnes, with Uttarkashi and Almora districts at the forefront.
According to Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Joshi, the government has made a budget provision of Rs 35 crore for the Apple mission this year, which will bring a new revolution in apple production in the state. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed this move, stating that it is a meaningful step in increasing the income of farmers and making them self-reliant.
