The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a Diwali gift for its employees and pensioners. The Chief Minister has decided to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) rates for eligible individuals in the state.

From July 1, 2025, the DA and DR will be raised from 55% to 58%. This change will benefit around 16.35 lakh government employees and 11.52 lakh pensioners and family pensioners in Uttar Pradesh.

The increase will come into effect, and the higher allowances will be given in cash starting from October 2025. This means eligible individuals will see a boost in their monthly income, helping them cope better with inflation.

The decision will cost the state government an additional ₹1,960 crore until March 2026. It will cover various groups, including employees from aided educational institutions, urban local bodies, and those on UGC pay scales.
