A Public Holiday Declared on Ravidas Jayanti in Uttar Pradesh
A public holiday has been declared in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday to celebrate Ravidas Jayanti. The Yogi government issued this notice, signifying that the day will now be treated as a public holiday. This means that all government offices and banks will remain closed.
Initially, Ravidas Jayanti was listed as an “untreated holiday” in a list released on December 17 last year. Employees were allowed to choose any two holidays from the untreated holidays. However, with the recent announcement, Ravidas Jayanti will now hold the same status as major festivals like Holi and Diwali.
Jitendra Kumar, the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department, confirmed that an amendment has been made to the earlier order. The holiday for Sant Ravidas Jayanti is now officially recognized, closing all government offices and banks for the day.
Chief Minister’s Greetings
In light of the occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh. He acknowledged the birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Satguru Ravidas Maharaj, highlighting the importance of his teachings. The Chief Minister noted that the birthplace of Satguru Ravidas is in Kashi, a city rich in mythology and culture.
Sant Ravidas was a significant figure who advocated for the removal of social evils and emphasized equality and virtue. His famous saying, “Mana Man heal to Ganga in Ganga,” reflects his belief in internal purity and cleanliness. His compositions have made a lasting impact and are considered a valuable part of Indian literature.
