UP Government Builds Eco-Friendly Grand Ghat in Varanasi for Tourism

The Uttar Pradesh government is constructing an eco-friendly ghat dedicated to Jain Tirthankar on the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi at a cost of Rs 17 crore. The ghat will become a hub of tourism in the region. The government’s aim is to rejuvenate the place of the four Kalyankas of Lord Chandraprabhuji, the 8th Tirthankara of Jainism.

Construction of a concrete Ganga Ghat will be carried out in Chandravati village, the birthplace of Chandraprabhu ji, on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The ghat will be more than 200 meters long, and tourism hubs will be developed in the surrounding area.

The ghat is being built in Chandravati village on the Varanasi to Ghazipur highway, about 23 km from Varanasi headquarters. The birthplace of Lord Chandraprabhuji, the 8th Tirthankar, is on the banks of the Ganges. The Shvetambara and Digambar Jain temple of Chandraprabhuji is located in the area.

The ghat will have signages, parking, toilet blocks, portable changing rooms, heritage lights, and benches made of stone for visitors to sit. A beautiful railing will also be installed. The entire ghat will have a heritage look. Construction will be completed by the year 2024.

Lakhs of devotees who believe in Jainism visit the area each year. Due to the revival of the ghat and the increase in facilities, this place will emerge as a big center of pilgrimage in the coming times. The Uttar Pradesh Projects Corporation Limited official said about 200 meters long pucca ghat is being constructed near the birthplace of Lord Chandraprabhuji.

In the future, there is also a plan to connect this ghat through water to spread tourism by boat till this ghat. The coming times this place will be developed as a new center of tourism, which will also benefit the tourism industry. The ghat is being prepared with gabion and rating wall, so that it will look like an old house and be safe in flood. Completely this construction will be eco-friendly.
