UP Govt Asks Builders to Speed Up Completion of Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway
The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the builders of the 595 km long Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway to speed up the construction work so that it can be completed before the Kumbh Mela of Prayagraj. The builders have been asked to complete the project by December 2034, ahead of the scheduled completion date of 2025. The expressway is expected to cost more than Rs 36,000 crore and will be constructed under a Public Private Partnership model. The project will run in 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Amroha, Sambhal, Meerut, Hapur, Unnao, Rae Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Bulandshahr, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.

The Industrial Development Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, has reviewed the progress of the project and asked officials to increase equipment and manpower. The expressway is a dream project of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has estimated a budget of Rs 6,800 crore for the Kumbh Mela. The access-controlled six-lane (expandable to eight lanes) expressway is divided into seven of three packages and divided into four groups, with a total of 12 packages. The Uttar Pradesh government has also allowed the use of fly ash in construction to overcome the shortage of soil.
