Uber’s New Advance Tip Issue 🚖💰
Uber, India’s popular cab service, is facing a big problem. When users try to book a cab, the app now asks them to give an advance tip for the drivers. Uber says that this tip goes directly to the drivers. However, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is not happy about this and has issued a notice to Uber, claiming that this practice is wrong.
Consumer Affairs Minister Speaks Out 📢
Union Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi is taking this issue seriously. He shared his concerns on social media, saying, “This practice of Advance Tip is worrisome.” He believes that asking customers to tip in advance for quicker service is not only unfair but also unethical. Tipping should be a voluntary act of appreciation, not something customers feel forced to do.
How Does This Work? 🤔
When you book a ride on the Uber app, it gives you the option to “Add a tip for faster pickup.” Users can choose tips of ₹50, ₹75, or ₹100. Once you add the tip, you cannot change it. Uber claims that drivers receive the full amount, but many feel this practice is misleading.
CCPA Takes Action ⚖️
After hearing about the complaints, Minister Prahlad Joshi asked the CCPA to investigate the matter. The CCPA has now issued a notice to Uber, asking for more information about this advance tipping system.
As this situation unfolds, many users are waiting to see how Uber will respond to these concerns.
