Two Lanes Closed on Dwarka Expressway
Two lanes have been closed for a week on the Dwarka Expressway due to the withdrawal of the Bajgheda village from Gurugram to Dwarka. The closure is a result of damage to the expansion joint (iron grill) on the expressway. With two of the four lanes shut, commuters are facing difficulties, especially during busy hours. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have ordered the replacement of this expansion joint.
Details of the Damage
The flyover near Bajgheda is a four-lane structure, featuring a 14-meter-long expansion joint. The expansion joint in the second lane from the left has suffered damage at two points, resulting in a pit approximately one and a half feet wide. Rubber has come out of the joint, leaving the road underneath exposed. This damage occurred last Sunday.
Safety Measures in Place
To prevent accidents, the expressway manufacturer has set up barricades around the damaged area, extending about 50 meters. Nighttime indicators have been installed, and two security personnel are stationed nearby for safety. Following the damage, NHAI’s Project Officer Akash Padhi inspected the situation.
Repeated Damage Concerns
It’s important to note that this expressway, which opened to traffic in February last year, connects Dwarka in Delhi to Kherki Daula village on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The total length of this flyover is about 29 kilometers, with 18.9 kilometers in the Gurugram section. This marks the second instance of damage within six months.
Hero Honda Chowk Flyover Issues
In another development, the Hero Honda Chowk flyover on the Delhi-Jaipur highway towards Delhi is also facing problems. Since January 3, two lanes have been closed due to damage on the right side of the flyover, with two pits reported. A month has passed, but the reasons for this damage are still unclear. NHAI has tasked the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) with conducting a thorough investigation, and officials will be taking samples from the site.
