Airport News
It was around 11:40 pm on January 20 when the Delhi Airport Police Control Room received a distress call. Two Japanese citizens jumped from a moving car to escape a dangerous situation. They were found at the scene with some injuries. The Indira Gandhi International Airport Police quickly responded and took both individuals to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The two foreign nationals were identified as Fadhali and Mahathir, originally from Indonesia. Fadhali, 35 years old, explained that he and his cousin Mahathir had arrived at IGI Airport from Indonesia around 9 pm on the same day. After arriving, Fadhali booked a cab through a friend. They met a driver named Naresh, who was sent to pick them up.
While heading towards Punjab, Naresh stopped the cab after traveling a short distance. At this point, he and two accomplices threatened Fadhali and Mahathir, demanding their valuables, including phones and wallets. When the two refused to comply, they were physically assaulted. Naresh even threatened their lives as the cab continued towards a flyover near Aerocity.
Due to traffic congestion on the flyover, the speed of the cab decreased. Seizing the opportunity to escape, both Fadhali and Mahathir jumped out of the car, managing to save their lives but leaving behind all their belongings, which included 8000 ringgit, a trolley bag, and two mobile phones.
Investigation and Arrests
Usha Ranganani, DCP of IGI Airport, stated that a team was formed to investigate the incident after receiving the victims’ statements. The team was led by SHO Sunil Goyal and included several inspectors and constables. They reviewed CCTV footage from the airport to identify the suspects and the vehicle involved in the crime.
The police successfully identified a Maruti S-Press car with Punjab registration that was linked to Naresh, the driver. A police team was dispatched to Punjab to apprehend the suspects. However, Naresh became aware of the police’s pursuit and attempted to evade capture by frequently changing locations.
After an extensive chase covering around 500 km, the police managed to locate and arrest Naresh in Ludhiana, Punjab. Further investigations are ongoing to ensure all involved parties are held accountable.
