GURGAON: Communal clashes broke out in Nuh on Monday afternoon after a religious procession passing through the district came under attack. The violence resulted in the death of two home guards and left dozens of people injured, including around 20 policemen. The Nuh episode triggered mob attacks in parts of Palwal, Faridabad, and Gurgaon, with the most severe incidents occurring in the south of the city. Houses and businesses belonging to members of one community were targeted by another, leading to a rampage that included setting several vehicles on fire and stone-pelting mobs challenging the police.

Estimates suggest that around 30 people were injured in Monday’s attacks. According to sources at Medanta, a renowned hospital, 13 police personnel were admitted with injuries sustained during the violence. One inspector, Anil, had a bullet injury in the stomach, while DSP Sajjan Singh suffered serious head injuries. Additionally, at least 16 vehicles were set on fire, primarily in Sohna and Nuh.

In an effort to combat the tension fueled by videos and forwards on social media, the Haryana government has suspended internet and SMS services in Nuh and internet services in Faridabad until August 2.
