Aadhaar Verification Now Mandatory for Reserved Train Ticket Bookings from October
Starting October, passengers will need to undergo Aadhaar verification to book reserved train tickets, similar to the current requirement for Tatkal bookings. The Indian Railways announced this step to curb black marketing and prevent misuse of the reservation system by agents and touts.
As per the new rules, when booking opens for a reserved category ticket, the first 15 minutes will be exclusively for bookings with Aadhaar verification. Passengers must verify their Aadhaar details before they can proceed to complete the ticket booking.
After this 15-minute window, authorized agents will also be allowed to make online bookings. However, there will be no changes in the ticket booking process at railway counters, which will continue as before.
Officials believe this move will enhance transparency and significantly reduce fraudulent ticket bookings. It will also help ensure that genuine passengers have better access to reserved tickets during peak demand.
