In the early hours of Saturday, a devastating fire broke out at a food processing unit in the Narela Industrial Area, leading to a tragic loss of life and multiple injuries. The Delhi Police reported that they received a distress call at 3:35 am about the blaze at Shayam Kripa Foods Private Ltd, a facility that processes dry moong dal.
Factory Engulfed, Workers Trapped
The fire quickly consumed the factory, trapping several workers inside, according to officials. Fourteen fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to combat the inferno. As of 8:30 am, the firefighting efforts were still ongoing, stated a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official.
Rescue Operations and Casualties
Emergency responders successfully rescued nine individuals from the burning building. These workers were immediately transported to SHRC Hospital in Narela.
Unfortunately, three of the rescued workers—Shyam, aged 24, Ram Singh, aged 30, and Beerpal, aged 42—were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The remaining six individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.
Possible Cause: Gas Leak and Explosion
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a gas leak in one of the pipelines supplying burners used for roasting moong dal. As the fire spread, it caused the compressor to overheat, resulting in a catastrophic explosion.
Ongoing Investigation
The police have initiated a case under the appropriate sections and an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause and any potential negligence that may have contributed to this tragic incident.
