Toyota has announced a strategic partnership with Maruti Suzuki to bring their first pure EV, the Urban Cruiser EV, to India. This electric vehicle is based on the Urban Crossover Concept recently exhibited at the Bharat Mobility Show.
Design and Features
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is a badge-engineered counterpart of the Suzuki e Vitara, with several changes to the design. The production-spec model features styling true to the Urban Crossover concept, with LED headlamps, a black bar connecting the headlights, a roof spoiler, and a floating roof effect. The interior will be similar to the e Vitara, with only a badge change.
Powertrain
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will be available with 49kWh or 61kWh battery pack options, similar to the e Vitara. The smaller battery pack variant will offer FWD variants with a power output of 142bhp and 192.5Nm of torque, while the larger 61kWh variants will have a system output of 172bhp and 192.5Nm torque.
Launch and Production
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV recently appeared at the Brussels Motor Show and is expected to launch in India in the coming months. Production will take place at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat, with exports planned to global markets.
