Delhi’s Timarpur Lake is set to become a major tourist destination in the near future. The Delhi government has developed the 40-acre lake, which was previously filled with dirty water and garbage, and renamed it Timarpur Lake. The lake will soon be opened for people to enjoy its natural beauty. The lake complex will include facilities such as a food cafe, open-air theater, butterfly park, gallery, and auditorium for people’s entertainment. People visiting the area can also take advantage of facilities such as a selfie point, step plaza seating area, and museum. The lake complex is also being connected to the Signature Bridge.
The lake’s treatment plant was built during the British era and was used to clean dirty water. However, the cleaning method was outdated, and the dirty water accumulated on the land of Timarpur, emitting a foul odor. The plant was later closed, and for several years, people started dumping garbage at the site, which became a den for anti-social elements. The local people felt insecure due to the presence of drunkards in the evening.
Water Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj recently reviewed the project by conducting a terrestrial inspection of Timarpur Lake. He instructed the officials to make the lake as per expectations and complete the quality works on time. Apart from the construction of the lake complex, a sewage treatment plant is also being developed on five acres. Every day, 25 MLD water will be treated in this plant, and the treated water will be used to fill the lake and recharge the groundwater. The Timarpur Lake has the potential to recharge 15 to 20 million gallons of water daily.
In conclusion, the development of Timarpur Lake is a significant step by the Delhi government towards promoting tourism and preserving the environment. People will soon be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and take advantage of various facilities. The inclusion of a sewage treatment plant will also help in the conservation of groundwater.
