NEW DELHI: Support for the ruling block over the Delhi services bill and the no-confidence motion moved by opposition parties against the Modi government is likely to swell further.
Support from TDP
Although N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which has 3 members in the
Parliament and one in the Rajya Sabha has not declared its formal stance, there are indications it is likely to side with the government during the showdown with the opposition over the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the no-trust motion.
Previous Alliance with NDA
Interestingly, breaking the alliance with NDA, TDP had in 2018 brought a no-confidence motion against the Modi government.
Support from BJD and YSR Congress
BJD and YSR Congress, with nine members each in the Rajya Sabha, have already offered to support the Centre on the Delhi bill.
Total Support for the Ruling Block
With support from BJD, YSRCP, TDP, and BSP, the BJP-led NDA will have 132 members backing it, far more than the halfway mark of 120 required as of now. NDA has 111 members, of which BJP has 97, including 5 nominated members.
Schedule for Discussions and Voting
The NCT bill has already been introduced in Lok Sabha and discussion and voting on it is expected to take place anytime. Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up the no-confidence motion on August 8 and voting is scheduled on August 10.
