NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Centre to take all necessary steps to maintain law and order in Delhi-NCR and ensure no hate speeches are made in rallies amid communal tensions in parts of Haryana.

The top court was hearing pleas over various protest marches being organized over violence in Haryana’s Nuh.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V Bhatti refused to stop the rallies but ordered that additional police or paramilitary forces be deployed and CCTV cameras be installed in sensitive areas.

“We hope and trust that the state governments, including the police authorities, will ensure that there are no hate speeches against any community and there is no violence or damage to properties. Wherever required, adequate police force or paramilitary forces will be deployed,” the bench said.

The apex court directed Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for the Centre, to immediately get in touch with authorities and ensure no untoward incident takes place anymore.

The Supreme Court has posted the matter for hearing on Friday.

The apex court also issued notices to Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi governments and fixed August 4 for next hearing in the case.

Six people, including two home guards, have died in the communal violence which broke out in Nuh after a mob tried to stop a VHP procession on July 31. As many as 116 people have been arrested so far, according to the state government.
