Supreme Court to Hear Bail Petition of Manish Sisodia on July 14

The Supreme Court has agreed to take up the bail petition of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on July 14. The urgent mentioning of the matter was made by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, citing the ill health of Sisodia’s wife, Seema Sisodia.

Earlier, Sisodia was granted permission by the Delhi High Court to meet his ailing wife at his residence. He has been in custody since his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 for his alleged involvement in the now-scrapped Delhi Liquor policy scam. On May 30, the high court had denied him bail in the CBI case.

Sisodia has now moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in separate criminal cases filed against him by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy.

Manish Sisodia’s Properties Attached

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently attached two properties belonging to Sisodia. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that these properties have nothing to do with the “so-called liquor scam” and are an attempt to defame the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders.

According to Kejriwal, one of the attached properties is a flat bought in 2004-05 for ₹5 lakh, and the other is a flat purchased in 2018 for ₹65 lakh. Additionally, a bank account in Sisodia’s name with ₹11 lakh was also attached by the ED.

The ED issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach assets worth ₹52.24 crore belonging to the liquor scam accused, including Sisodia and his wife.

Last year, the Delhi government withdrew its new excise policy after a CBI probe was launched into allegations of irregularities by Delhi LG VK Saxena.

Sisodia is currently in jail in connection with the alleged scam.
