In an effort to curb pollution in Delhi, the Delhi Transport Department has made preparations to strictly follow the instructions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) regarding the operation of interstate buses in Delhi-NCR.
According to the instructions of CAQM, from November 1, only buses that are electric, run on CNG, or have BS-6 category diesel engines will be allowed to enter Delhi-NCR from other states. To ensure compliance, the Transport Department of the Delhi Government has issued a circular on Thursday. CAQM has also shared this order with the Principal Secretaries and Transport Commissioners of the Transport Departments of Haryana, UP, and Rajasthan.
CAQM instructions should be strictly followed
The circular issued by the Secretary of the State Transport Authority states that starting from November 1, any roadways bus coming from Haryana, Rajasthan, or UP will only be allowed to enter Delhi if it is electric, runs on CNG, or has a BS-6 diesel engine. This restriction applies to private bus operators, state PSU buses, and state roadways buses. The Transport Department has emphasized that these instructions from CAQM must be strictly followed, with violations being subject to action under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Transport department team will investigate at the border and bus stands
Starting from November 1, Transport Department teams will conduct checks at all Delhi borders where interstate buses enter and exit the city. Only buses with CNG, electric, or BS-6 diesel engines will be allowed to enter the city from the borders. Inspections will also take place at bus stands and other locations where private bus operators operate. Any buses found violating the rules will be confiscated.
It is important to note that every day, thousands of people from neighboring states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan travel to Delhi-NCR cities using interstate and private buses. With the ban on non-compliant buses starting from November 1, bus passengers may face difficulties.
