Share Market Closes with Marginal Gains

The Indian share market closed in the green on Tuesday, June 6, amid choppy trade. While the Sensex and Nifty both ended up around 5 points, the broader market remained positive, with the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closing up by 0.29% and 0.42%, respectively. The auto, realty, and pharma sectors witnessed the most buying interest, while IT, tech, and metal stocks faced selling pressure. Investors made gains of approximately INR 73,000 crore ($11.4 billion) in the market today.

Sensex and Nifty Gains

The Bombay Stock Exchange’s benchmark 30-share index, Sensex, rose 5.41 points or 0.0086% to close at 62,792.88 points, while the National Stock Exchange’s benchmark 50-share index, Nifty, closed at 18,599.00 points, up 5.15 points or 0.028%.

Investors Earn INR 73,000 crore

The total market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE rose to INR 286.75 lakh crore on June 6, up from INR 285.99 lakh crore on June 5. This means that the market cap of BSE-listed companies rose by approximately INR 73,000 crore ($11.4 billion) today.

Top Gainers and Losers

Out of the 30 stocks in the Sensex, 18 closed in the positive territory. Ultratech Cement was the top gainer, rising 3.31%, followed by Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, and Maruti Suzuki, which gained between 1.42% and 1.99%. On the other hand, Infosys was the top loser, falling 1.90%, followed by Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and Bharti Airtel, which lost between 0.62% and 1.88%.

Total Number of Shares that Rose and Fell

Out of a total of 3,659 shares traded on the BSE today, 1,999 closed in the green, while 1,531 closed in the red. The remaining 129 shares closed unchanged.
