HYDERABAD: Safran, a French aerospace giant, is set to establish one of its largest aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Hyderabad. The facility will cover 23.5 acres and have a built-up area of 36,500 sq ft. It will be located in the SEZ area of GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park and will have the capacity to service 300 engines per year by 2035. Construction is expected to begin in September 2021, with the facility being handed over in December 2024 and operations starting in 2025. The project is expected to create around 1000 jobs at its peak capacity.
Land Lease Agreement Signed
GMR Hyderabad Aviation SEZ Limited (GHASL), a subsidiary of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), has signed a land lease agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines Services India Pvt Ltd (SAESIPL) for the establishment and operation of engine MRO facilities for Safran’s LEAP turbofan engines.
Strategic Location
Safran chose the GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park after conducting a thorough global assessment. The park already hosts two industrial facilities operated by Safran for cable harnessing and aircraft engine component manufacturing. Additionally, a Safran-GE joint venture, CFM, operates an engine maintenance training facility at the park.

Nicolas Potier, Vice President of Support & Services at Safran Aircraft Engines, stated that the MRO project represents a significant investment in Safran’s future in India. It will provide additional capacity to support the operations of Safran’s airline customers.
