PAN 2.0 Introduction
The Income Tax Department in India has introduced PAN 2.0 to enhance the PAN card system. The main goal is to improve security and simplify the process for everyone.
What is E-PAN?
The new system includes an E-PAN that features a scanned QR code. This QR code allows for faster certification while also minimizing the chances of fraud or misuse associated with PAN cards.
How to Get Your E-PAN?
The digital E-PAN is available for free and can be received immediately via email. If you prefer a physical PAN card, it will be sent to your registered address after you pay a small fee. It’s important to note that if you already have a regular PAN card without a QR code, it remains valid and there is no need to update it.
Identifying Your PAN Issuing Agency
To proceed with PAN 2.0 or E-PAN, you need to know which agency issued your PAN. There are two authorized agencies in India: Protean Egov Technologies Limited (NSDL) and UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (Utiitsl). You can check your existing PAN card to find out which agency issued it.
How to Apply for PAN 2.0 Card through Protean (NSDL)
If you are applying through Protean, follow these steps:
1. Visit the re-print website of Protean.
2. Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and date of birth.
3. Accept the terms and click on “Submit.”
4. Verify your PAN details and choose to receive an OTP via mobile or email.
5. Enter the OTP and verify it within 10 minutes.
6. Go to the payment page, accept the terms, and pay a reprint fee of Rs 50.
7. Save the receipt you receive after payment.
8. After 24 hours, you can download your E-PAN.
9. Your physical PAN card will be delivered to your registered address within 15 to 20 days.
