Renault Kwid EV Electric Car

The Renault Kwid is set to enter the electric vehicle market in 2024, offering an affordable option for consumers. The electric version of the Kwid will be localized to 55-60% and is expected to have a range of over 300 km on a single charge. Renault India’s Managing Director, Venkatram Mamilapalle, confirmed that the electric Kwid will be launched in the domestic market within the next year and a half and will be priced under Rs. 10 lakh. The car will compete with popular electric models such as the Tata Tiago Electric, Citroën eC3, and MG Comet.

Renault’s Electrification Strategy

Renault is committed to its electrification strategy in India and will be launching the electric Kwid as part of this initiative. The India-specific model will be built on the CMF-A architecture and is expected to be launched in 2024 or 2025. The company is focused on bringing the electric Kwid to the market as soon as possible.

Localization and Design

Renault plans to localize the production of the Kwid EV to 55-60% to ensure competitive pricing. The battery pack and related components will also be sourced locally. The electric Kwid will be based on a modified version of the Kwid’s platform and will feature design updates to differentiate it from the internal combustion engine (ICE) version. The international version of the electric Kwid has been on sale for several years and has received positive feedback from customers.

Technical Specifications

The global Kwid EV features a flat floor and modifications to the suspension and chassis to accommodate the battery pack. In the European market, the electric hatchback uses a 26.8 kWh battery pack with a power output of 44 HP and 125 Nm of torque. It has a claimed driving range of 295 km on the WLTP cycle.
