In a significant move to enhance security and curb the use of fake identification, the Indian Railways will now conduct Aadhaar card verification of passengers while trains are in motion. Ticket checking personnel will be equipped with the mAadhaar mobile app, which allows them to verify the identity of travelers in real-time.
Fake Aadhaar Cards to Attract Legal Action
According to instructions issued by Railway Board Director Praveen Kumar, if a forged Aadhaar card is detected during checks, it will be handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for further legal proceedings. This decision follows concerns raised by the Ministry of Railways that a large number of passengers were found using fake Aadhaar cards during train journeys.
QR Code-Based Real-Time Authentication
The mAadhaar app includes a feature to scan QR codes printed on Aadhaar cards. Once scanned, the app will display the holder’s name, photo, and other essential details for instant authentication. If the Aadhaar is fake or tampered with, the system will flag it immediately, revealing the forgery.
Railway Staff Also Under Scanner
In addition to passengers, the Aadhaar verification process will also extend to railway employees working on trains, ensuring no unauthorized personnel are present during operations.
