The East Central Railway (ECR) has reported a big jump in its income from various sources, especially freight traffic, from April to August this year (2024-25). The initial income during this period is ₹13,469 crore, which is 5.75% higher compared to ₹12,737 crore earned last year. This shows a strong performance in the railway’s operations.
Increase in Freight Traffic 🚂
During the same period, ECR loaded about 83.28 million tonnes of goods, which is a 2.46% increase from 81.28 million tonnes last year. The earnings from freight loading alone reached ₹11,151 crore, marking a 3.82% rise from ₹10,741 crore last year. Chief Public Relations Officer, Saraswati Chandra, highlighted the significant rise in loading of essential goods like maize, wheat, and bauxite.
Goods Loading Statistics 📦
For maize, the loading increased from 218 rakes last year to 368 rakes this year, a rise of 68.81%. Wheat loading also doubled from 19 rakes to 38 rakes, a 100% increase. Bauxite saw an increase from 104 rakes to 124 rakes, which is a 19.23% growth.
Passenger Traffic and Revenue 🚉
From April to August 2024, around 102 million passengers traveled via East Central Railway, generating revenue of ₹2,059 crore, which is higher than the previous year. The revenue from passenger traffic was ₹1,761 crore, showing a notable increase of 16.91% compared to last year.
