Railway passengers in India are in for a treat as the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app is set to revolutionize the way tickets are booked. Let’s dive into the key highlights of this innovative change in railway ticketing.

Expanded Booking Radius

  • Old vs New Radius: Previously, passengers could book their tickets within a 5 km radius of the station. Now, this facility has been extended to a 50 km radius, offering greater convenience and flexibility.

Enhanced User Experience

  • Instant Messaging: Once the ticket is booked through the app, passengers will receive an instant confirmation message on their mobile.
  • Ticket Validity: The ticket will automatically become invalid at the end of the journey. It cannot be used for another trip or refunded.
  • Security Features: Screenshots of the ticket cannot be taken, reducing the chances of ticket fraud.

Ticket Booking Near Tracks

  • Geo-fencing Technology: To prevent misuse, online paperless tickets cannot be booked within 40 meters of the track. This ensures passengers don’t book tickets last minute upon seeing the ticket inspector.

QR Code Booking and Counter Facilities

  • QR Codes at Stations: QR codes have been displayed at ticket counters and key locations for easy online booking.
  • Train Arrival Information: While booking, passengers will know if the train is arriving within three hours or later, aiding travel planning.
  • Counter Options: Though online paperless tickets are encouraged, passengers can still opt for printed tickets at counters after booking online.

PNR and Multiple Ticket Booking

  • PNR Number: During the booking process, passengers will receive a PNR number.
  • Maximum Tickets Per PNR: Up to four tickets can be booked under one PNR.

Payment Options

  • Modes of Payment: Payments can be made via debit card, credit card, and e-wallets.

Booking Process on UTS App

  1. Download App: First, download the UTS app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Registration: Enter details like name, mobile number, and ID card number.
  3. OTP Verification: After registering, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number for verification.
  4. Login Details: Upon successful registration, login ID and password will be sent to the registered mobile number.
  5. Booking Tickets: Finally, log in to the UTS app and proceed to book tickets.

With these enhancements, the UTS app aims to make railway ticket booking more accessible, secure, and convenient for passengers. This digital leap in railway services is a significant step towards modernizing the Indian Railways and enhancing the overall travel experience for millions of commuters.
