Indian Railways to Launch Northeast India’s First Semi-High-Speed Train
Indian Railways is set to launch India’s 18th Vande Bharat Express train on May 29th. The new train will run between New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati in Northeast India, making it the region’s first semi-high-speed train.
Third Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal
The New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express will be the third of its kind to operate in West Bengal, covering a distance of approximately 410 km in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.
Reduced Travel Time
The upgraded train is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities from approximately 7 hours to 6 hours. The six-day-a-week train will depart from New Jalpaiguri at 6:10 am and reach its destination at 12 noon. The return journey will depart from Guwahati at 4:40 PM and reach New Jalpaiguri at approximately 10:20 PM.
Connecting Six Stations
The Northeast’s first Vande Bharat Express will connect six stations during its journey, including New-Jalpaiguri and Guwahati Junction, New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon, and Kamakhya.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Vande Bharat Express is a self-propelled train equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that provide a comfortable traveling experience. It is being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
Operational in 21 States and Union Territories
With 17 operational Vande Bharat Express trains in India, covering 21 states and union territories, the launch of the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati Vande Bharat Express will add to the growing network of high-speed trains in India.
