Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi visited Azadpur Mandi, one of Asia’s biggest vegetable wholesale markets, on Tuesday morning. The visit comes in response to the soaring prices of vegetables, with several varieties being sold at over Rs 100 per kilogram. Gandhi arrived at the market around 4 a.m. and interacted with the vegetable sellers.

This isn’t the first time Gandhi has engaged with different communities and sectors. Previously, he visited farm fields in Haryana, sowed paddy samplings, and invited women farmers for lunch at his residence. He also took a truck ride from Haryana’s Murthal to Ambala to understand the challenges faced by truck drivers. In Karnataka’s Bengaluru, he met gig workers and even drove on a scooter with a delivery partner. Gandhi also visited Delhi University’s PG Men’s Hostel for lunch with students, and interacted with UPSC aspirants in the Mukherjee Nagar area of Delhi. In April this year, he traveled to Jama Masjid and the Bengali Market area.

The visit to Azadpur Mandi highlights Gandhi’s concern for the rising prices of vegetables, which have been causing difficulties for consumers. The prices of tomatoes, in particular, have reached over Rs 200 per kilogram in several areas of the national capital. By engaging with vegetable sellers and understanding their challenges, Gandhi aims to gain firsthand knowledge of the situation and potentially advocate for measures to address the issue.

In summary, Rahul Gandhi visited Azadpur Mandi, one of Asia’s largest vegetable wholesale markets, to interact with vegetable sellers in response to the soaring prices of vegetables. This visit is part of his ongoing efforts to engage with various communities and sectors and gain a deeper understanding of their challenges.
