Punjab Government Launches One Time Settlement Scheme for Electricity Consumers

The Punjab government has announced the implementation of the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for electricity consumers who have defaulted on their payments. The scheme is aimed at those who were unable to pay their electricity bill on time, leading to their electricity connection being disconnected or not reconnected after disconnection. The scheme will run for three months for all categories of consumers.

Key highlights of the scheme are as follows:

– Earlier, delayed payments had to be paid with 18% interest. Under the new scheme, payment needs to be made with only 9% interest.
– Previously, a fixed charge had to be paid for the period from disconnection till reconnection. However, the new settlement scheme will not charge any fee for six months from disconnection. If the connection has been disconnected for more than six months, a maximum of six months fixed charge will be taken.
– There was no provision for installment payment earlier. The new settlement scheme, on the other hand, has a provision for payment in four installments in a year.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took to Twitter to announce the scheme and urged consumers to take advantage of the golden opportunity. The scheme is especially aimed at industrial consumers.

Additionally, the Punjab government has implemented a scheme where every household in the state is entitled to 300 units of electricity free of cost every month. The scheme is not applicable to political people and is only meant for the fourth class personnel in government jobs.

This move by the Punjab government is expected to provide much-needed relief to defaulting electricity consumers and will help them get back on track with their payments.
