Historic Day for Indian Farmers

Today marks a historic milestone for Indian agriculture as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two major schemes worth ₹35,440 crore at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. This significant announcement comes on the birth anniversaries of two great leaders – Jayaprakash Narayan ji and Nanaji Deshmukh ji – who dedicated their lives to rural development.

PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
The first scheme, PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, comes with a massive allocation of ₹24,000 crore. This scheme aims to transform agriculture across 100 selected districts by enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting crop diversification, and improving sustainable farming practices. The scheme will also boost post-harvest storage infrastructure at panchayat and block levels and improve irrigation facilities across the country.

Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses
The second major initiative is the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses with an outlay of ₹11,440 crore. This mission focuses on making India self-reliant in pulses production by improving productivity levels, expanding cultivation areas, and strengthening the entire value chain from procurement to processing. This will help reduce India’s dependency on imports and meet the growing domestic demand for pulses.

Direct Impact on Farmers
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that these schemes will directly benefit crores of farmers across the nation and help in doubling farmers’ incomes while achieving food and nutritional security for the country. The government also inaugurated and dedicated projects worth over ₹5,450 crore in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing sectors, while laying foundation stones for additional projects worth ₹815 crore.
