Pressure On Parents To Buy Prospectus Amid Nursery Admissions In Delhi Schools For 2025-26

Pressure to Buy Prospectus for Nursery Admissions

In New Delhi, there’s growing pressure for parents to purchase a prospectus when applying for nursery admissions in private schools. The admission process for general seats from nursery to first class is currently underway for the academic session 2025-26. While the registration fee is a nominal Rs 25, schools are subtly nudging parents to buy the prospectus in order to access important fee-related information. Unfortunately, many schools have removed details about their fee structures from their websites, stating that this information will be shared later. This leaves parents in a difficult position, as they are unable to obtain clear information about the costs involved in their children’s education.

Parents Facing Challenges

Rahul Uniyal, a concerned parent, shared his experience regarding the admission process. He mentioned that while he can register his child at a prestigious school, he feels that the process is somewhat convoluted. Parents can express their grievances online if they encounter issues with admissions. The Directorate of Education has established a grievance redressal system to address such complaints. However, many parents like Rahul have reported feeling pressured to purchase the prospectus, which they believe should not be a requirement for accessing vital information about school fees and admissions.

Clarifications on Prospectus Purchase

The principal of a local school has clarified that buying the prospectus is entirely optional for parents. Dr. Satveer Sharma emphasized that parents are free to decide whether they want to purchase it or not. If parents inquire about the fee structure, schools can provide verbal information without mandating the purchase of the prospectus. The Directorate of Education has also made it clear that schools cannot charge more than Rs 25 as a registration fee and cannot pressure parents into buying the prospectus. Parents still have time to apply for admissions until December 20, with the first list of selected candidates expected to be released in January.
