Major Cash Recovery Before Delhi Elections
A significant amount of cash has been seized once again in Delhi ahead of the upcoming elections. On the evening of January 27, the Kishangarh police arrested three individuals after recovering ₹83 lakh during a vehicle inspection. The accused were found in an SUV when the police team noticed the vehicle and signaled it to stop for an investigation.
Upon searching the SUV, the police discovered bundles of ₹500 and ₹100 notes. Following this discovery, they promptly informed the Election Commission and the Income Tax Department about the incident.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas, Sumit, and Rohtash Singh. Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendra Chaudhary mentioned that Inspector Srinivas Rajora, along with SST chief Gaurav Kumar and FST chief Tanuj Kumar, was conducting vehicle checks on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg in the Kishangarh area when they spotted the suspicious SUV.
Details of the Arrest
Upon stopping the vehicle, the investigation team searched it and found the cash hidden in a bag. When questioned, the occupants of the vehicle could not provide any valid documents or explanations regarding the cash, leading to their arrest.
The police immediately notified the Income Tax Department about the case. Deputy Income Tax Director Aarti and Inspector Ashish arrived at the scene shortly after. They took the accused, along with the recovered cash, to the police station for further processing, where the total amount of ₹83 lakh was counted. The three accused were then handed over to the Income Tax Department for further action.
Previous Cash Recovery
This incident follows another cash recovery made by Delhi Police, where ₹23 lakh was found in a vehicle near Chacha Nehru Hospital in Geeta Colony, Shahdara. The police have been conducting extensive vehicle checks in light of the assembly elections. In that case, the driver, Krishnapal Jain from Chhatarpur, was found in possession of the cash, and the vehicle was registered in his son’s name.
The police’s intensified efforts to curb illegal cash circulation during this election season continue to be a focus in Delhi.
