PM Modi to meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk during US visit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a trip to the United States which started on June 21 and will end on June 24. During his visit, PM Modi will meet with the world’s richest man, as well as Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The meeting between PM Modi and Musk will reportedly center around Tesla’s rumored plans to build a factory in India. The two will join 24 other individuals, including economists, artists, and scientists, during their meeting.
Is India set to get a Tesla factory?
According to an ANI report, PM Modi will meet with around 24 individuals during his three-day visit to the US. However, the exact agenda of the meeting has not yet been disclosed. Musk has previously expressed interest in bringing Tesla cars to India, but the country has so far refused to reduce import taxes on foreign-made cars. India wants Tesla to manufacture vehicles locally before considering any tax concessions.
Musk has previously said that India is the right place to establish a new factory. Tesla’s electric vehicles are popular worldwide, and Indian consumers are eager to get their hands on them. However, the Indian government has made it clear that it will not allow the sale of Tesla cars imported from China. Tesla’s first plant outside the United States is in China, and the company wants to import electric cars from China to India, a move that the government does not approve of.
Meeting between Modi and Musk
This is not the first time PM Modi has met with Elon Musk. When the Indian Prime Minister visited the United States in 2015, he met with Musk and visited the Tesla factory. During their meeting, Modi and Musk discussed Tesla’s battery technology, energy storage, and the positive impact of this innovation on India.
In conclusion, PM Modi’s meeting with Elon Musk during his US visit has sparked speculation about the possibility of Tesla opening a factory in India. However, the Indian government has made it clear that it will not reduce import taxes on foreign-made cars unless Tesla manufactures vehicles locally.
