PM Modi supports expansion of Brics, suggests areas of cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India supports the expansion of Brics (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) to include new nations and is ready to move forward on the issue with consensus. Speaking at the five-nation summit, PM Modi suggested several areas where the Brics partners could cooperate and work together. He praised the journey of Brics so far and hoped that India’s proposal to make the African Union a permanent member of the G20 will be supported by Brics member nations. PM Modi also welcomed the move to give special importance to countries of the Global South under the South African presidency of the Brics.

PM Modi also highlighted the role of the New Development Bank of Brics in the development of the Global South. Earlier, during the group photo at BRICS, PM Modi noticed the Indian Tricolour on the ground, picked it up, and kept it with him to ensure no one stepped on it.
