PM Modi and Sharad Pawar will share stage at Lokmanya Tilak National Award ceremony, a latest development.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya Tilak, on his death anniversary in Pune on Tuesday. He also visited the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganesh temple and offered prayers. The Prime Minister will be conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, and the event will have NCP president Sharad Pawar as the chief guest. The award, established by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the progress and development of the nation. Prime Minister Modi will be the 41st recipient of this prestigious award. The event will also be attended by other dignitaries such as chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, and Sushil Kumar Shinde.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for being conferred with the award and paid homage to Lokmanya Tilak. The Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust, which organizes the award ceremony, is a non-political organization and has historically presented the award to exceptional individuals from various fields. Previous recipients include prominent figures like Shankar Dayal Sharma, Pranab Mukherjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, NR Narayana Murthy, and E Sreedharan.

In the latest developments, there has been confusion over Sharad Pawar’s participation in the event. Sanjay Raut, a member of the Shiv Sena, expressed concerns about the confusion created when leaders from different political parties attend such events. Congress leaders tried to meet Pawar but were unsuccessful. They expressed disappointment over not getting an appointment with him. Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe urged Pawar to remind Prime Minister Modi that his actions are against the ideology of Lokmanya Tilak.

The event has garnered attention due to the presence of politicians from different political parties, including the Prime Minister and Sharad Pawar.
