The Uttar Pradesh ATS questions Pakistani citizen living illegally in Greater Noida

The Uttar Pradesh police’s anti-terrorist squad (ATS) has questioned Pakistani citizen Seema Haider, who entered India illegally in May and is now living with her Indian partner Sachin Meena in Greater Noida. This comes after the ATS arrested a suspected agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Lucknow for supplying vital information about defense establishments to his handlers in Pakistan.

RW group’s threat

Haider’s questioning also coincides with a threat from a little-known right-wing group in Greater Noida. The group has threatened to protest if Haider, who claims to have converted to Hinduism, is not evicted from the country within 72 hours.

Possible arrest

An ATS official stated that Haider and Meena may or may not be arrested after the questioning, depending on the outcome of the interrogation. The case is considered sensitive as it pertains to national security. The local police are conducting a separate investigation and have not yet filed a chargesheet.

The backstory

Haider, along with her four children, entered India from Nepal in May to live with Meena in Greater Noida. On July 4, Haider was arrested for entering India illegally, while Meena was held for sheltering illegal immigrants. Both were granted bail on July 7 and have been living together with Haider’s children in a house in the Rabupura area.

Pakistan’s claim

Pakistan’s intelligence agencies reportedly informed the government that love was the only factor that led Haider to sneak into India and live with Meena. The connection between the two allegedly began through an online game platform.

Separate incident

In a separate incident, a gang of dacoits attacked a Hindu temple and adjoining homes belonging to Hindus in the Kashmore area of Southern Sindh province in Pakistan. The attackers used rocket launchers, but there were no reported casualties.
