Ola Electric Becomes India’s Top Electric Scooter Brand
Ola Electric has become the top-selling electric scooter brand in India, breaking its own record for sales in May. The Bangalore-based startup sold over 35,000 electric scooters last month, increasing its market share in the electric scooter segment to 30%. This marks the ninth consecutive month that Ola has held the top position in India’s electric two-wheeler market.
Rapid Growth in Sales
In April, Ola Electric sold more than 30,000 electric scooters, recording a 300% year-on-year growth in sales. The company’s founder and CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, said that due to a significant reduction in government subsidies, they had increased the price of their vehicles slightly. However, he added that Ola Electric would continue to support its mission of promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
Price Hike
Following the government’s subsidy cuts that came into effect on June 1, several automakers, including Ola Electric, increased the prices of their electric vehicles. The price of Ola’s S1 Pro, equipped with a 4 kWh battery pack, is now INR 139,999, while the S1 with a 3 kWh battery pack is priced at INR 129,999, and the S1 Air with a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack starts at INR 109,999.
Impressive Specs
The S1 and S1 Air come with a standard 3 kWh battery pack, while the top-of-the-line S1 Pro features a larger 4 kWh battery pack. Ola Electric claims that the S1 Pro can travel up to 181 km on a single charge, while the S1 and S1 Air offer driving ranges of up to 141 km and 125 km, respectively.
Ola Electric’s success in the electric scooter market is a significant achievement, given the intense competition in the sector. The company’s commitment to promoting clean energy and its continuous efforts to improve its products have helped it become a leader in the industry.
