National Security Advisor Ajit Doval holds talks with Oman’s top leadership to strengthen security ties
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Oman on Monday and met with the country’s top leadership, including Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, to discuss ways to bolster security ties between India and Oman. The discussions also covered cooperation in technology, military matters, mining, and other issues of common interest. Doval delivered a written message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oman’s ruler that covered various aspects of cooperation. He also conveyed greetings and wishes for Oman’s progress and prosperity. During his visit, Doval held a separate meeting with Oman’s foreign minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi to discuss strategic relations between the two countries. They exchanged views on promising sectors in technological, military and mining spheres, as well as commercial, investment, and cultural fields. The two officials also discussed regional and international issues and underscored the leadership of the two countries on policies of constructive dialogue and international cooperation.
The meeting between Doval and Gen Sultan Mohammed Al Nu’amani, minister of the royal office, focused on enhancing means of cooperation to achieve the joint interests of the two countries. Discussions also covered cooperation in counter-terrorism and maritime security. With New Delhi ramping up efforts to strengthen security ties with key countries in West Asia, India and Oman have been working closely on security and stability in the Indian Ocean. The discussions between the two sides aimed to explore ways of expanding ties in all fields.
Doval’s visit to Oman comes after he accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a state visit to Egypt. Oman is among the guest countries invited by India to be part of the G20 process this year. Sayyid Badr congratulated India for successfully hosting the G20 meetings. Doval’s visit to Oman is seen as part of India’s efforts to strengthen its relationships with key countries in the region and expand its strategic partnerships.
