Security Features Coming to Noida Greater Noida Expressway
The 45-kilometer Noida Greater Noida Expressway is set to enhance its security features in line with the Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards. A report prepared by the Regional Center for Urban and Environmental Studies, authorized by the Noida Authority, highlights several areas needing improvement after a detailed survey conducted over two days.
Heavy Traffic on the Expressway
With millions of vehicles using this expressway daily, the survey focused on the impact of around 10 lakh vehicles that pass through. The findings have been submitted to the CEO of the Noida Authority, who has given preliminary approval for estimated expenses to upgrade security features.
Survey Findings
The survey revealed several shortcomings, such as the narrow width of lane demarcation strips and the absence of bollards and reflectors in various locations. Additionally, there are insufficient signboards in crucial areas. The expressway currently has 12 advertisement poles, 8 integrated security and traffic management system poles, 21 signage poles, 13 foot-over-bridges, and 19 public toilets, most of which lack proper signage. Notably, the expressway does not have kilometer markers.
Next Steps for Improvement
The company will prepare a presentation based on the survey report, and an estimate for necessary improvements will be sent to IIT Delhi for validation. Once the estimate is approved, tenders will be issued for the work, which is expected to be completed within six months after a contractor is selected. The report indicates that many accidents on the expressway have occurred due to the lack of these essential security features.
Importance of the Expressway
This expressway plays a crucial role in connecting Delhi with Noida and Greater Noida, and it links to the Agra Expressway. The expressway is vital for facilitating access to the upcoming Noida International Airport, making the implementation of security features even more important.
Ongoing Surveillance Efforts
The Noida Greater Noida Expressway is already under surveillance through the Integrated Security and Traffic Management System (ISTMS), with cameras installed on poles along the route to monitor traffic and enhance safety. The Greater Noida Authority is also involved in discussions about further security enhancements along the expressway.
