The Noida Authority has recently taken significant action against illegal construction in the villages of Garhi Chaukhandi and Basai. They have marked 22 buildings with a clear warning stating, “This building is illegal,” using red ink to indicate their stance.

The identified structures include a mix of shops, residential buildings, and hotels. In addition to this, vendors operating illegally in the area have been removed. The authority has made it clear that this crackdown will continue consistently in the future.

Background on the Land

The land in question, specifically measles numbers 13, 16, 17, 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38 in Garhi Chaukhandi village, has already been earmarked and notified by the Authority. Illegal construction has been ongoing on this land situated between FNG Road and Pushta Marg for quite some time. Despite multiple attempts by the authority to halt the construction activities, they faced constant resistance from encroachers. As a result, the authority has now issued warnings on these buildings.

Next Steps

Notices have been affixed to all identified buildings, and officials have warned that if the occupants do not voluntarily remove these structures, the authority will demolish them and recover the costs involved.

Following the instructions of CEO Lokesh M., senior managers from various circles (1 to 10) have begun compiling lists of illegal buildings in their respective areas. A joint survey has also been conducted to investigate plots previously involved in illegal construction that had been demolished. If any such plots are found to have been rebuilt, the individuals responsible will be classified as land mafia, and a report will be sent to the government.

Encroachment Statistics

Since January 2024, the authority has successfully reclaimed approximately 1.93 lakh square meters of land from encroachment, valued at around Rs 1,068 crore. This land is intended for future developments under the Master Plan 2031. Currently, 24 FIRs have been filed, and investigations into 118 cases are underway at the DCP level. Legal action is expected to follow soon in these matters.
