If you are a driver who frequently uses the roads, then this news is important for you. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recently withdrawn the rules that were introduced three years ago regarding waiting time at toll booths.
As per the rules introduced in May 2021, the flow per vehicle at the toll booth should have been less than 10 seconds, and the number of vehicles in any lane should not exceed 100 meters from the toll booth.
The NHAI had initially stated that if the queue of vehicles extended up to a distance of 100 meters from the toll booth, then vehicles would be allowed to pass without paying toll. This rule was specifically implemented for toll booths where project work was ongoing, and land acquisition for the toll plaza was pending. However, due to challenges in implementing the rule and criticism from the general public, NHAI has decided to revoke the policy introduced in 2021.
Following the withdrawal of the rule, NHAI has now put in place a live feed system to manage long lines at toll booths. This move comes after the difficulties faced in enforcing the 2021 rule and feedback from citizens regarding the same. The implementation of the live feed system is expected to streamline traffic flow and enhance the overall toll booth experience for drivers.
