In response to the intense cold wave and sheet lahar, schools in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, will remain closed for four consecutive days, from the 19th to the 22nd of January. This extended holiday period includes a district magistrate-declared break due to the weather, a weekend, and a public holiday for an important religious event.

Closure of Schools Due to Extreme Weather

The District Magistrate of Aligarh has announced a two-day holiday on the 19th and 20th of January for all schools across various educational boards, due to the severe cold conditions. This decision affects students up to the 8th grade in all schools, including CBSE, ICSE, Basic Education Council, and others.

Despite the closure for students, all teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to report to their respective schools for departmental and school-related work.

Extended Holiday Weekend

Following the two-day closure due to cold, schools will remain closed on the 21st of January, which falls on a Sunday. Additionally, a public holiday has been declared on the 22nd of January in light of the ‘Prana Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Consequently, schools will experience a four-day closure, with the 22nd being a holiday for all classes, not just up to 8th grade.

Switch to Online Learning

In light of the extended break, many schools have initiated online learning to ensure educational continuity. Students are engaging in virtual classes for three to four hours daily and are being assigned homework to keep up with their studies.

Key Highlights:

  1. Extended School Closure: Schools in Aligarh to remain closed from 19th to 22nd January.
  2. Reasons for Closure: Severe cold wave and sheet lahar, followed by a weekend and a public holiday.
  3. Impact on Education: Online classes initiated to maintain the continuity of education.
  4. Staff Duty: School staff to continue work despite student holidays.

This four-day holiday period offers respite to students from the severe cold, while the shift to online learning ensures minimal disruption to their educational progress. The coordinated effort by the schools to adapt to these weather challenges highlights their commitment to providing uninterrupted education to their students.
