As New Delhi gears up to welcome the New Year, Connaught Place is expected to attract a large crowd for the celebrations. In anticipation of this, the traffic police have issued an advisory for Connaught Place and surrounding areas.
Traffic Restrictions and Advice
On the eve of the New Year, from 8 PM until the end of the celebrations, there will be traffic restrictions in several areas around Connaught Place. Private and public vehicles will be prohibited from entering specific locations to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety.
Restricted Areas:
- Mandi House Circle
- Bengali Market Circle
- North of Ranjit Singh Flyover
- Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg Crossing
- Near Munje Chowk at Chemsford Road
- RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing
- Gole Market Circle
- GPO Circle at Patel Chowk
- Kasturba Gandhi Road-Feroz Shah Road Crossing
- Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane
- Windsor Place Circle
Vehicles will not be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place from these points.
Parking and Crowd Hotspots
Designated parking spots have been pre-determined around Connaught Place. Hotspots like Surya Hotel at New Friends Colony, Lajpat Nagar Central Market, M and N Block Market in Greater Kailash, Eros Hotel, Crowne Plaza Hotel at Nehru Place, Defence Colony Club, INA Market, South Extension, and Hauz Khas are expected to see heavy footfall.
Alternative Routes for Vehicles:
Vehicles traveling from North Delhi to South Delhi can use alternative routes like:
- Ring Road from ISBT to Ashram
- Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road
- ISBT, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, Hanuman Murti Ring Road
Security Measures
Over 10,000 police personnel will be deployed across the city to maintain law and order. Special focus will be on stunt bikers and those causing disturbances. Areas expected to see large gatherings will have adequate police presence, with security measures already heightened. PCR vans will also be stationed.
Police Campaign
On New Year’s Eve, the police will run a special campaign against drunk driving, overspeeding, stunt biking, and reckless driving.
