Commuters facing daily bottlenecks between Delhi and Gurugram may finally breathe a sigh of relief. The long-awaited Dwarka Expressway, complete with a tunnel section, is set for a trial opening starting May 29.

The trial phase will allow light motor vehicles (LMVs) for three hours during the day over a 10-km stretch of the expressway. The goal is to test traffic flow, safety readiness, and infrastructure before fully opening the corridor for regular use.

Dwarka Expressway to Cut Congestion at Delhi-Gurugram Border

Travel to Airport, Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, and Major Areas to Become Quicker and Jam-Free

Once operational, the expressway is expected to drastically reduce jams at the Delhi-Gurugram border and streamline traffic to IGI Airport and Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre).

Drivers will now be able to travel uninterrupted from Delhi’s Shiv Murti Chowk all the way to the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram, bypassing notorious traffic choke points. The expressway features 8 lanes and multiple entry/exit ramps to ease movement across NCR zones.

29 km Expressway with 3.6 km Tunnel – A New Milestone in India’s Urban Infrastructure

Tunnel on NH-8 to Be a Gamechanger; 19 km Haryana Section Already Complete, Delhi Stretch Nears Completion

Spanning 29 kilometers in total, the expressway includes a 3.6 km long tunnel under NH-8 — an engineering feat designed to ease the flow of traffic around the airport and surrounding areas. According to officials, 19 kilometers of the expressway in Haryana have already been completed, and the remaining 10 kilometers under Delhi jurisdiction are in their final stages.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has spearheaded the project as part of its effort to decongest the Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-48), which has long suffered from chronic traffic jams due to growing intercity movement.

Expressway to Connect Key Zones: Mahipalpur, Dwarka, Gurugram, and NH-8

Trial to Be Conducted in Three-Hour Window; Toll-Free Movement for Initial Phase

During the trial run, vehicles will be permitted to ply from Dwarka, Mahipalpur, and NH-8 toward Gurugram, bringing great relief to commuters from both cities. The final testing and calibration of toll systems, traffic lights, and signages are underway.

The expressway will serve as a vital connector between residential, commercial, and institutional zones, providing fast-track access to both Delhi and Gurugram without relying on existing overloaded routes.
