In a major crackdown on illegal construction, the Town and Country Planning Department (DTCP) in Faridabad launched a demolition drive in Umri village, located near the Yamuna river. The team, supported by police and enforcement officials, razed around 40 unauthorized farmhouses on Wednesday using bulldozers.
The drive, which targeted an unauthorized colony operating under the guise of a farmhouse society, was carried out following repeated complaints and a survey by authorities.
🛑 20 Farmhouses Demolished, Compound Walls Brought Down
According to officials, 20 farmhouses were completely demolished, while boundary walls of another 20 plots were also razed. Most of these constructions were built without approval, violating the city’s master plan and zoning regulations.
The officials emphasized that such illegal development around ecologically sensitive areas like the Yamuna poses environmental and infrastructural risks, and action will continue against violators.
🧾 Building Certificate Mandatory for Construction in Controlled Areas
Officials clarified that any construction within controlled zones requires prior approval from the District Town Planning office. Without the necessary documentation or NOC, no legal structure can be allowed, and any such unauthorized buildings will face demolition.
During the drive, authorities stated that despite multiple warnings and notices issued in March, illegal construction activities had continued unabated in the area.
📈 Yamuna Belt Becoming a New Real Estate Hotspot
The Yamuna floodplains near Faridabad have seen a sharp rise in real estate activities in recent years due to increasing infrastructure developments, such as:
-
The proposed Jewar Airport
-
Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway
-
Yamuna Bridge Project connecting Delhi-NCR cities
This has led to a surge in illegal plotting and unauthorized farmhouse colonies, drawing the attention of government agencies.
🚨 Action to Continue; Locals Cautioned Against Illegal Investments
DTCP officials have warned the public not to invest in unauthorized colonies that lack official documentation. The department plans to intensify inspections and take similar action against other such illegal settlements cropping up in the Yamuna belt.
