The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a new railway line project with a budget of approximately Rs 18,036 crore. This new line will connect Indore and Manmad, enhancing mobility and providing direct connectivity for passengers and goods.
Connecting Six Districts π
This railway project will span six districts across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, adding about 309 kilometers to the Indian Railways network. It will also establish 30 new stations, improving access for around 1,000 villages and benefiting a population of about 30 lakh. This will boost tourism in the Ujjain-Indore area, especially at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple.
Support for Agriculture and Industry πΎπ
The project will enhance direct connectivity to onion-producing districts and support the distribution of agricultural products. It will link Pithampur Auto Cluster, home to numerous industries, with major ports, making transportation easier and faster.
Employment Opportunities π·ββοΈ
During the construction of this railway project, approximately 102 working days of direct employment will be created. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav highlighted these days as “Human Days”. The project is vital for transporting goods like fertilizers, iron ore, and cement, and is expected to handle an additional freight traffic of about 26 million tonnes per annum by 2028-29.
