MUMBAI: Woman Accused of Faking Assault and Extorting Money from Businessman

A woman in Mumbai, Monica Bhagwan alias Dev Choudhary, has been accused of falsely accusing a 64-year-old businessman of sexual assault and extorting Rs 3 crore from him.
The chargesheet filed by the police reveals that the woman had applied chicken bloodstains on her hands and claimed that she got injured while resisting the alleged assault.
Monica Bhagwan and her three accomplices, Anil Choudhary alias Akash, Lubna Wazir alias Sapna (a fashion designer), and jeweler Manish Sodi, have been charged in the case.
The incident dates back to 2017, when Anil Choudhary and Sapna befriended the businessman and planned to trap him by studying his assets.
In 2019, Monica alleged that the businessman tried to sexually assault her at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, and Sapna filmed a video of their altercation, accusing him of assault.
The businessman lodged a police complaint in November 2021, stating that a gang of four had extorted Rs 3.25 crore from him and continued to threaten him for more money.
While Monica’s accomplices were arrested earlier, her arrest took place in June 2022.
